Node (computing)

Node, in the context of computing, is a generic term for a device connected to a network. It can refer to any individual computer on a network, or it can refer to a single point of connection in a larger system. It is often used to refer to a physical network device such as a router, switch, or access point.

In a more general context, the term node can be used to describe any computing device that stores and exchanges data with other nodes. Desktop computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones, and other computing devices all fall under this definition.

In terms of networks, nodes are used to forward data between other nodes. For example, when a computer is connected to the internet, it sends data to the internet router via a node, and the router then forwards that data to its destination through other nodes.

The term node is also commonly used in the context of distributed computing, where a single task is broken down and distributed to multiple nodes for processing. This is done to speed up the process and make it more efficient.

Finally, in the context of programming, a node is an element in a programming language or framework. In particular, it is an element that includes data and any functions that can act on that data. In other words, a node is an object with data and functions.
