Multi-Dimensional OLAP (MOLAP)

Multi-Dimensional OLAP (MOLAP) is an online analytical processing (OLAP) technique in which multi-dimensional arrays of data, such as from a database, are used to provide powerful analytics, such as interactive query and analysis of multiple dimensions. This enables users to easily explore and analyze data from different perspectives in order to gain meaningful insights and make informed decisions.

MOLAP is a type of OLAP technology that utilizes data warehouse and provides advanced analytics capabilities to users. It is typically used in decision support systems and supports the exploring of large amounts of data. For example, if a retail store wants to analyze customer buying habits, they could use MOLAP to look at customer purchases by product, location, and other criteria. MOLAP is advantageous due to its superior performance relative to other forms of OLAP, such as ROLAP. However, due to its need to pre-calculate the results, MOLAP requires much more storage than other methods. This means it may not be suitable for applications such as data mining that require data to be updated regularly. Additionally, if the data set that are to be analyzed is too large or complex, MOLAP may not be suitable due to its processing time.
