Proxy 911 was a residential proxy service that was founded in 2015. It allowed users to rent a residential IP address to use as a relay for their Internet communications. This meant that users could appear to be connecting to the Internet from a different location, which could be useful for a variety of purposes, such as:

  • Maintaining anonymity: By using a proxy server, users could hide their real IP address and make it more difficult for websites and other online services to track their activities.
  • Bypassing geo-restrictions: Some websites and online services are only available in certain countries. By using a proxy server in a different country, users could bypass these restrictions and access the content that they wanted.
  • Getting around censorship: In some countries, the government censors certain websites and online services. By using a proxy server, users could bypass these censorship restrictions and access the content that they wanted.

How Proxy 911 Worked

Proxy 911 worked by using a network of residential computers. When a user connected to Proxy 911, their traffic was routed through one of these computers. The computer would then forward the traffic to the destination website or online service. This allowed the user to appear to be connecting to the Internet from the location of the computer that they were using.

The Data Breach

In July 2022, Proxy 911 announced that it was shutting down after a data breach. The breach exposed the personal information of millions of users, including their IP addresses, usernames, passwords, and payment information. As a result of the breach, Proxy 911 advised users to change their passwords and monitor their credit reports for any suspicious activity.
