The presence in the Network of many locks and restrictions for users forced the latter to resort to different ways of bypassing the protection. The most popular and effective way to do this is to connect a Proxy server. It can be used:

  • to access a resource that has been blocked for a visitor due to his or her ip address;
  • blocking is based on geodata (the user has been blocked because of his location, ip address of a certain country or region);
  • Blocking was done because the user entered a certain category that was denied access to the site.

Setting up a proxy connection will allow you to bypass any of these blocking options and access the site while maintaining your anonymity.

The only nuance in this matter is the correct selection of the proxy server. If you make a mistake, choose a bad option and get slow connection speed or high ping (response time from the site and the time it receives requests from the user’s PC).

Note: To have a stable and high-speed connection through the proxy, you should approach it responsibly.

Connecting to the Internet through a proxy server and checking that connection

It is impossible to determine how convenient the selected proxy server will be without its connection and practical tests. So, when you are going to connect your Proxy server, you should perform the following steps:

  • to measure the current speed of the Internet;
  • Select the Proxy server you want to install and use;
  • to set up the proxy and connect it;
  • to measure the speed using the connected Proxy.

How can I check the Internet and check proxy server settings? When following the first step of the proposed instruction, the following values should be taken into account:

  • The most important thing is the incoming and outgoing speed of the Internet connection;
  • it’s worth paying attention to the ping;
  • you need to know your current ip

The speed of the incoming and outgoing Internet directly affects the speed of downloading data from the site, or the time it takes to download content from hosts.

Ping when connecting through a proxy server is an extremely important value, with which you can determine how quickly the server will receive requests from the user and respond to them. The less, the better.

Example: Optimal ping can be called a figure of 30 – 50 ms (it is enough even for modern network games that require a good response).

Finally, the last item is the IP address. Remember or write down the actual value.

How to test the proxy server

After the initial measurements have been made, you should start configuring and connecting the Proxy server. If errors are displayed, it means that there was an error in filling in the configuration fields, they should be checked. If this kind of configuration seems too complicated, you can prefer a simpler option – the use of extensions for browsers.

After the configuration has been made, you should check the proxy server parameters, or, more precisely, its connection parameters.

To do this, we visit the same resource where we checked the speed of a normal connection and repeat the procedure.

The speed of incoming and outgoing traffic may drop significantly (here the user himself needs to control what value will suit him). Ping can also rise.

Important: If the ping exceeds the value of 70 – 80, it will be inconvenient to work with the site.

If the ping is high, you should immediately refuse to use the current connection of the proxy server and start searching for another one.

Finally, the most important point that we are testing for when we connect to the Internet through a proxy is the value of the ip address. It has to change. Depending on the type and version of the proxy application, we will be able to set its value or choose from among the possible ones. In any case, the value selected in the shell must correspond to the value on the site for speed measurement. In case the IP address has not changed, your proxy server does not perform its main task, which, in turn, indicates the need to find and connect another one.
